Morris and Horton sweep Mini Dwarf weekend at Cocopah
Staff Reports:
Not to be outdone the Mini Dwarf class also took out some brooms of their own during this weekends running of The Wes Hurst Memorial.
As multi-time main event winner in 2019 Hudson Morris took his Masters Mini Dwarf to victory lane both Friday and Saturday night. Morris
dominated the field on Friday lapping all the way up to 2nd place but had a harder time Saturday as a couple of late race restarts allowed
fellow 2019 main event winner Aiden Figueroa to take the lead for short time on the last restart but the #3 charged back to the front and raced to the checkers.
In contrast Sportsman driver Bentley “Wildman” Horton had to fight off the dominator in the class Brody “Blaze” Lopez for victory on night one with both
competitors swapping the lead 3 times before Hortons #s20 took the checkers. Night 2 Lopez and Horton again swapped the lead a couple times before Horton
became a victim of lapped traffic but fought back to get back to 2nd and with 3 laps remaining coming off of turn 4 Lopez’s #95 ride became disabled due to a clutch failure
and Horton slid by and raced off to his 2nd main event in as many days thus sweeping the weekend. Both drivers also claimed a set of tires donated by
Ed Whitehead’s Tire Pros if any driver could sweep the weekend. Saturday night also saw the Junior Sprint division take the track with 4 cars in attendance
with Landon Dalton picking up the win in his #25 ride
