With the final weekend completed and the wins tallied up we had several repeat winners and 2 new faces the final night at The Diamond in the Desert.
As the final weekend started of Friday night it was a familiar face in Budweiser victory lane as Nebraska’s Justin Zeitner went back to back as he also won Tuesday nights feature following Zeitner across the line was another Cornhusker Dylan Smith, last Saturday winner Ricky Thornton Jr,California’s Cody Laney and Colorado hot shoe Ryan Gaylord.
Next up were the Sport Mods who put on a great battle but lots of carnage as it was Wayne Dotson repeating his previous Friday night feature and took the win ahead of fellow Bakersfield racers Gary Dutton and Nick Spainhoward along with Cocopah Speedway regulars Adolfo Noriega and Tom Harrison rounding out the top 5
IMCA Stock Cars put up one of the best main events of the evening as it was Truman,Minnesota’s Andrew Altenburg coming out on top after a late race battle with Speedway Track Champion Manny Baldiviez and last Saturdays winner Greg Wichman with fellow Wisconsin stand outs Joe White and Rob Krull completing the top 5
IMCA Hobby Stocks were short on cars but not racing action as previous night #2 winner returned to victory lane after a race long battle with Yuma’s Jimmy Robinson as Brent Wofford,Bob Horton and Jason Beshears finished out the top five.
With $3,000.00 on the line for the IMCA Modifieds and a track that was looking to have multiple racing grooves and it did not disappoint as 13th starting Ricky Thornton Jr who after the heat race stated he was gonna up and call it a weekend but his wife and family talked him into staying and he gave the capacity crowd a race to remember after winning his B main Thornton Jr started lucky #13 and started reeling off car after car then moved to his familiar top side and used the cushion to pass leaders Mike Jergens and Lance Mari at the start finish line and sailed to victory from there to win #2 for week and #5 on his season so far.finishing out the top 5 were California’s Ryan McDaniel and hard charger from 21st position was Hunter Marriott.
Finishing out the finale were Sport Mod repeat winner Levi Kiefer in the Sonny Wahl owned Dream Chassis #3d. Stock Car winner Joe Smith who drove the familiar $195 machine to its 2nd victory but Smith’s 1st as Jon Courchaine drove the Sniper Chassis to the win on night #3 and your Hobby Stocks had a feel good finish as local racar Jimmy Robinson reeled in leader Scott Shaw and drove away to his 1st career main event of his career as he has been knocking for some time.
