Racing was back under way Tuesday night at Cocopah Speedway as Night #3 kicked off the back side of The 5th Annual IMCA Winter Nationals presented by The Alexander Auto Groups.

As the high powered race cars took to the track at the Somerton 3/8ths dirt oval would we get a repeat winner or would we have 4 new fresh faces in the Budweiser victory lane.

It didn’t take long to get our answer as Yuma’s Bob Horton put a precise driving clinic on the dry slick surface of the diamond in the desert as Horton from his 4th starting position raced to the lead and held off several challenges from Scott Shaw and Brent Wofford to take his 2nd checkered flag of the winter nationals and 3rd on the year.

Sport mods were up next and again it was a driving clinic put on byBakersfields Levi Kiefer in the Sonny Wahl Dream Chassis #3d after starting 7th on the field he ran down the leaders to take his 1st checkered flag at the Cocopah Speedway oval with fellow California driver Austin Frye 2nd and a trio of local drivers in 2015 track champ Chris Toth,Timmy Reese and Kyle Smith rounded out the top 5

Next up were the always competitive IMCA Stock Cars and they would not disappoint as pole sitter Jon Courchaine from Wisconsin battle all race long with fellow Sniper Speed team mate Rob Krull until Krull retired to the infield with only a handful of laps remaining that left the field battling for 2 on back but it was 8th starting Andrew Altenburg taking spot #2 with Saturdays winner Greg Wichman,Colorado drivers Tony Hill and Race Fisher rounding out your top 5.

Your finale for the IMCA Modifieds looked much like Saturday night as Nebraska ace Justin Zeitner sped off and left the field only to negated by several cautions but Zeitner would not be denied this night as he kept his Zeitner and Sons GRT up front for 25 laps and broke his string of 3rd place finishes, keeping Zeitner on his game was Arizona hotshoe Tim Ward in his Sidebiter, another GRT pilot Nick Deal and a pair of team mates in Tony Wedelstadt and RC Whitwell in a pair of Mike Wedelstadt owned Mars Racecars finishing out your top 5.

Round 4 will kick off Friday February 12th and Saturday will bring the nationals to a close with a $3000.00 to win and $300.00 to finale for your IMCA Modifieds gates will open both nights at 5:00pm with racing as always starting at 7:00pm.

And has been the case all week long if you can’t make it to sunny Arizona you can catch the action live with the great team at SpeedShift TV. For tickets and any info see or you can pick tickets up at Wild River Family Entertainment Center which is across from the speedway.
