Saturday night the racer who became known as “Deacon Dick” and was inducted into the Arizona Motorsports Hall of Fame will be honored with the first “Deacon Dick Rautenberg Memorial” at what is now Cocopah Speedway.

“This is going to be an annual event, honoring a great man, that we will develop into one of our premiere events during the season,” said Greg Burgess, director of operations at Cocopah Speedway.

The racing program Saturday night will feature all five of the divisions in the Cocopah Speedway Racing Series. The program will also mark the start of the 2014 Fall Series in all five divisions.

The first green flag will fly at 7 p.m.

“One person who I have heard a lot about in the four years I have been here is ‘Deacon Dick Rautenberg,’” continued Burgess. “Although I didn’t know Dick personally, I must say I have never known anyone who has had so many nice things said about them.
