Cocopah Speedway Racing series races it’s way toward a break …

Gonna take three months, gonna have a fine vacation …

With apologies to rockabilly artist Eddie Cochran and his manager, Jerry Capehart, who co-wrote the 1958 hit “Summertime Blues,” that will be the scene Saturday night at Cocopah Speedway when the 2014 Cocopah Speedway Racing Series wraps up the first half of the season and takes a three-month break. Following Saturday night’s show the track will be idle, except for a Fourth of July demolition derby, until Sept. 26.

“It’s a break I’m pretty sure all of the drivers and their crews are looking forward to,” said Greg Burgess, Cocopah Speedway’s director of operations. “It’s been a long haul since the season started the first weekend in January, and it’s time for a breather.

“Plus, it’s getting a little toasty with summer about to set in, so I’m sure the fans are grateful for a break too.

“But we aren’t going to go quietly into the night. No, we’ve got some fierce racing going on in all five of our divisions, and I’m sure those drivers who are trying to win championships will want to make a statement before we go away for the summer.
