Cocopah series entering halfway point at Saturday’s show

It’s hot, that’s obvious.

But at least it’s not raining.

That’s the tradeoff Greg Burgess likes a lot when talking about the next race in the 2014 Cocopah Speedway Racing Series.

“Right now there are a lot of tracks across the country that can’t get their races in because they’re getting washed out,” said Burgess, Cocopah Speedway’s director of operations, this week as he prepared for Saturday night’s program at the Somerton oval.

“So, I don’t know about you, but I’d rather be here, where I admit it’s a little warm, but it is June, and we will be racing.

“And by the way, the only thing that will be hotter than our daytime temperatures will be the racing down on the track,” added Burgess with a laugh.
