Noriega ends Baldiviez’ streak at Cocopah Speedway

Circle track racing and winning, for Adolfo Noriega, is more than standing on the gas and turning left.

For the veteran driver from Yuma, there is also a complicated thought process involved.

And Saturday night, Noriega, one of the most calculating drivers in the Cocopah Speedway Racing Series, clearly out-thought Chula Vista’s Manny Baldiviez to win the Street Stock Division feature event at the Somerton oval, ending Baldiviez’ four-race winning streak in the process.

Noriega used a daring outside pass to get around Baldiviez late in the 20-lap race and take his first checkered flag since March 15. The pass was not premeditated, said Noriega, but end result of following Baldiviez for a number of laps.
