Yuma’s Horton latest to lead title hunt at Cocopah Speedway

Oddsmakers in Las Vegas are pulling out their hair.

That’s because figuring out who is the favorite to win the 2014 driving championship in the IMCA Modified Division at Cocopah Speedway has become a next to impossible task, with the leader changing from one week to another.

Entering Saturday night’s Round 8 in the Cocopah Speedway Racing Series, Yuma’s Bobby Horton is the latest to climb to the top of the heap. Horton, who won his first feature event of the season on April 12, and backed that up with two second place finishes, is now in the No. 1 position in the standings, with Imperial’s Lance Mari two points back.

Yuma’s Ty Rogers, who was the point leader after racing was over on April 26, has fallen back to third, eight points behind Horton. His tumble was the direct result of finishing 14th during the May 10 show.

Before Rogers, the top spot belonged to Mari. But his ride atop the title chase was scuttled by a 15th place on April 26, enabling Rogers to move up.
