Records falling at Cocopah Speedway as racing series heats up

At the rate they’re going, the 2014 Cocopah Speedway Racing Series will be over in the blink of an eye.

Seriously.

During racing March 15, drivers in two of the series’ racing divisions set new, single-lap records and there is a good possibility the stop watches will be smoking Saturday night too when the Somerton track hosts Round 4 in the series with a full schedule of racing all five divisions.

“It’s a sign of the times,” said Greg Burgess, Cocopah Speedway’s director of operations, referring to the track records falling. “It doesn’t surprise me, and it really shouldn’t surprise anyone else when these drivers break a record, because it shows they are getting more familiar with their cars, their setups and they are getting smarter about how they handle themselves out on the track
