2014 season at Cocopah Speedway gets off to rousing start

Greg Burgess has a problem.
He can’t stop smiling.
He’s been stricken with this affliction since Saturday night when Cocopah Speedway opened the 2014 season with a field of cars coming to the Somerton oval from far and wide and three feature events out of five were not decided until the final lap.
“This is really something!” exclaimed Burgess, the track’s director of operations after the final checkered flag. “We had some great racing tonight. And I think having cars and drivers from six different states is a pretty nice way to open too.”
The IMCA Modified Division saw 25 cars parked in the pit, with drivers arriving from as far away as Cleghorn, Iowa, and Minot, S.D., and Farmington, N.M., and Pahrump, Nev.
