If you haven’t seen your favorite local race car driver during the holidays, there is a good reason.
The 2014 season at Cocopah Speedway opens Saturday night, which is only four weeks since the 2013 season concluded.
“So, we’ve got a lot of drivers and crews who have been busy during the holidays, getting their equipment ready, getting ready to do this thing all over again,” said Greg Burgess, Cocopah Speedway’s director of operations.
Saturday night’s program is Round 1 in the 2014 Cocopah Speedway Racing Series, which will not conclude until Dec. 6.
From start to finish the series will feature 17 point races, with drivers competing for championships in five different divisions – IMCA Modified, IMCA Sport Mod, Pro-Stock, Street Stock and IMCA Hobby Stock, formerly the track’s Factory Stock Division.
While Burgess said the 2013 season was punctuated with a high level of excitement and drama, 2014 promises to be even better.
