Daly Leads West Coast Shootout into Inaugural Weekend at Cocopah Speedway
(Santa Maria, CA) – This Saturday, October 6th, the West Coast Shootout Late Model Series will make their inaugural run at Yuma, Arizona’s Cocopah Speedway for a $2,000 to win, $400 to start feature event. Defending series’ champion Clay Daly leads the points’ standings going into the weekend. Jason Papich, Tony Toste, Rob Sanders and Steve Drake complete the top five.
Daly has five wins on the season behind the Pete Van Iderstine owned, Cornett powered No. 32B Victory Circle Chassis with one being with the West Coast Shootout at Hanford Speedway on March 31st. Daly looks to become the first driver to win multiple feature events within the series this season. He heads in with momentum after picking up his second straight Crate Late Model championship this past weekend at Ocean Speedway.
Twenty-eight points behind Clay Daly sits Pismo Beach’s Tony Toste. Toste has put together a continuous string of good runs and is still searching for his first Super Late Model victory of the season.
One point behind his teammate, Jason Papich picked up his first win of the season at the Santa Maria Speedway on September 2nd for the 19th annual Danny and Sandie Simkins Memorial. Papich is still looking for his first win within the series and move up the board in the tight points’ battle.
Bakersfield’s Rob Sanders has had a weekend full of near firsts and will look to capitalize this weekend. Nearly picking up his first win with the West Coast Shootout Late Model Series at Petaluma Speedway and then his first season championship two weeks later at the Santa Maria Speedway, Sanders will be one to watch up front this weekend.
Completing the top five is the 2012 Santa Maria Speedway track champion Steve “the Snake” Drake. Drake led wire-to-wire on September 22nd at Santa Maria for his first win of the season and secured the track championship with a five point advantage over Sanders. Drake also has a second win on the season at Bakersfield Speedway.
Joining the West Coast Shootout this weekend will be Factory Stocks and Vintage Sprint Cars. General admission is $15, Senior and Military $13, Skybox $30, Family Pass (2 adults and up to 4 children) $30 and pit passes $35.
